My friend invited me to a traditional at her home this past weekend and I was in panic mode because I have never been to a traditional wedding and thus have nothing remotely resembling a shweshwe or umbhaco (Xhosa attire). So I improvised, broke as I was and at the last-minute I kinda had to work with what I had but I was pretty impressed with the results…I’ve said it before accessories can do wonders for an outfit!

Loving my Daniella Michelle brogues!

For some reason I haven’t the slightest interest in AFW! I’m not feeling any pressure or excitement enough to push me towards Sandton Convention Center. Nonetheless I’m still interested to see who showed what. Maybe it was this year’s SA Fashion Week catastrophe but sometimes our Fashion Weeks can be so tedious, especially when there is NOTHING to write home about with most designers, it’s like paying to watch back to back zero grade movies with one or two gems popping up somewhere in the line-up! I mean I love our designers and all but being able to produce stunning day-to-day wear does not make you fit for a fashion week stage.

Anyway my main reason for this post is just to understand the concept and logic behind David Tlale’s midnight show this morning? Did the collection itself have something to do with midnight or is King David able to do whatever he pleases at this point?

Blue Monday!

I’m not sure if it’s being 25 or just a state of mind but I battle a lot with” life purpose” from time to time, especially at this point in my life. When I started my blog, I was at a point of no return, frustrated with my negativity, my self-doubt, my self-pity and mostly complaining over and over again about the lack of passion for my job. You see I’m a breed lying somewhere between a Pisces and an Aquarius so my thoughts are always in the clouds, I’m a dreamer, a believer, a passion driven being..I really do believe that I can change the world; it’s not far from my goals in life. Unfortunately or fortunately for me (perhaps I don’t know it yet), I’m not one of those people who knew exactly what they needed to do and how to go about it whilst still living on this God-given earth and so I tend to envy those people but most of all I’m inspired by those people.

It can be the smallest of things, like a friend refusing to conform to societal pressures of “going to a traditional university and getting a degree in Account (I can hear my mom’s voice) but rather choosing his passion for photography and making ends meet against all odds. Or a friend quitting a job that does not fulfill her soul regardless of the state of poverty that awaits her and pursuing what she believes in, to eventually get a break. Or a friend failing so many times to have people laugh and scorn at him for believing he can ever be a pilot but beating all odds and getting his license and flying as a young black man. These are the everyday people who follow their dreams and look ahead no matter what the circumstances right now, the people who look past the current obstacles because they see the end of the tunnel very clearly.  The people who wake up daily and look forward to the start of the day. This is all I ever wanted, this is my goal right now, and this is my dream! It may sound simple but think about what that entails. It means I have to find what fulfills me, follow it, work hard at it and continuously improve on it.

Finally I’m on that journey of discovery but it’s days like today that set me back a footstep because that element of self-doubt starts creeping in but I know for as long as I’m typing away on this blog and beating myself up because I want to feel a sense of purpose and will do anything to find that purpose….everyday is a step closer to my dreams!

Life’s a journey, embrace it! Big up to the passion driven people’s out there!

P.S. I know it’s not style related but it’s my blog and I’ll cry if I want to 🙂

Rock your brooches this weekend and have an awesome one, for some of you hope to see you at the Pulchritude Sale this Saturday!

Forever New

So I was utterly ecstatic when I was given cart blanche to play around inside Forever New, one of my favourite stores right now! I felt like a kid in a chocolate factory. If you are obsessed over Gossip Girl like I am, Forever New is the closest thing you will get to the clothes. I love this store mainly because they change their stock almost every week. I can’t remember ever going to a shop weekly and seeing new fabulous stock every time,in fact NEVER! This then means that when you see something that tickles your fancy (which is always) you have to buy it because the next time you come, it will be gone..and let me tell you – THEY DON’T RESTOCK!

The pictures I took do not remotely do this shop justice, you guys have to visit yourselves to see what I mean!

The shop is slap bang in the middle of Fourways Mall in Fourways and I find it hilarious that a lot of people still don’t know about it even people living in the North!

Style References

This picture I saw on got me thinking….

So I’m a full on blog surfer, anything related to style and  fashion entices me! I discovered this world of “online style and fashion media” (don’t even know what to call it but you know what I mean) through websites such as,, and blogs such as,, locally;,, the list goes on. My point is instantly I was hooked to this new world I never knew existed and soon I realised that it’s become a movement, a culture, the new age of style and fashion media/expression. Print media is fast being superseded by online media and fashion blogs are fast becoming the style reference guide as opposed to conventional fashion magazines.

Now everyday of my waking life I’m online sourcing inspiration from these blogs and websites! What I’ve noticed is that most of them (International sites) have style references,be it the socialites, celebrities and street style. This got me thinking that who are our style references??? I mean I know in SA generally we don’t really consider our “celebs” true celebs (whatever that means) but who are our best dressed, our style gurus, our trend-setters, the girls and guys who inspire us! I know there must be a couple of people but why aren’t they so visible to most of us, how come our SA fashion blogs and websites don’t make reference to these people like they do to the Alexa Chungs, the Kate Moss’s and the Sienna Miller’s of this world. Is it because we ourselves don’t believe in our own local produce, we would rather look to the International designers, fashion journalists and style gurus for inspiration?

Just a thought…Do you guys have local people in mind when thinking of style gurus? People whose style inspires you and makes you want to live in their world?

My feature on the Mr Price Blog!

Aaah so excited, the team from the insanely awesome Mr Price blog ( asked me to be one of their Reader’s Style feature and of course I was utterly honoured to feature in one of the best SA blogs!
